Island sections are the core revenue-producing fixture in any freestanding run: the depth, height, and bracket type you specify here sets the ceiling on facing density, back type flexibility, and total load capacity for every bay in the run.

  • Widths: 2ft (24in), 30in, 3ft (36in), and 4ft (48in)
  • Heights: 36 to 120in
  • Depths: 13 to 31in per side (13in depth not available with Heavy Duty brackets)
  • Base types: 06 Standard Base (8in height) or LB Low Base (6in height)
  • Bracket types: S (Spring Locking) or HD (Heavy Duty, requires HD uprite)
  • Back panel options: P (Pegboard), M (Marteck), ME (Econo Marteck), W (Woodgrain), PW, PM (Mirrored Pegboard), S (Slotwall), SI, or NBR (No Back Required)
  • Closed Base Front (CBF) required on all island sections
  • Maximum section load: 4,500 lbs. Unbalanced load limits: 12,000 in-lbs (standard) or 15,000 in-lbs (HD)
Compatibility: Island sections connect between two uprites within a run and require a matching Island End unit at each terminus of the run. Closed Base Front (CBF) panels are included with each island section (two per section, one for each aisle side) and do not need to be ordered separately. Back panel type, bracket type, and depth must match across all sections in a continuous run for structural alignment. Heavy Duty (HD) brackets require an HD uprite and are not compatible with the 13in depth configuration. For sections 78in and taller, two-piece back panels are required with a Splicer Rail at the mid-height joint.
Designed for: Center-aisle gondola runs in grocery, C-store, drug, and general merchandise formats. High-volume category aisles, planogram-reset programs, and any layout where bilateral facing density, back panel flexibility, and maximum load capacity per bay are the primary fixture performance requirements.

Configuration Reference

Lozier island sections in this catalog are available in section widths of 24, 30, 36, and 48 inches, with heights of 48, 54, 60, 66, 72, 78, 84, and 96 inches. All sections use the standard Lozier one-inch Uprite slot pattern, which allows shelf height adjustment in one-inch increments without tools or additional hardware.

Island section frames are ordered in a metal finish selected separately from the back panel. Platinum (PLT), a light beige, is the standard default, with Charcoal (CHR) and Cool White (W08) also stocked as standard finishes on the shortest lead time. Pegboard (the P in the section SKU) is the catalog default back style, not a finish. Optional Catalog Colors carry an 8 to 10 week production lead time.

Lozier island section depth determines Base Bracket and Base Deck sizing for the entire run. Depths of 13, 16, 19, 22, and 25 inches are available. Base Decks and Base Brackets are depth-specific components and cannot be mixed across different depth specifications within a single section without voiding rated load capacity.

Sections are ordered as Starter or Add-On. A Starter is a complete standalone section with both end frames; an Add-On shares the neighboring section's end Uprite and drops one Uprite, two Base Brackets, and the end trim. Tilt-In (TL) and Drop-In (DL) shelves are the two standard shelf styles compatible with Lozier island Uprites, and shelf depth must match or be shallower than the section depth ordered.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I know which gondola island section depth to order for my store?

Depth selection follows your product category. The 13-inch depth is standard for health and beauty care, 16-inch for drug and convenience, 19-inch and 22-inch for grocery and general merchandise, and 25-inch for hardware and auto parts. When in doubt, measure the deepest product you plan to front-face on the shelf and add at least two inches for label and price strip clearance.

What is the difference between a Tilt-In and a Drop-In Lozier shelf for island sections?

A Tilt-In (TL) shelf hooks into the Uprite slot at an angle and then tilts flat, locking in place without tools. A Drop-In (DL) shelf slides straight down into two brackets that are pre-installed on the Uprite. Tilt-In is the more common configuration for retail gondola runs because it allows faster height adjustment during resets without removing product from adjacent shelves.

Lozier island section depth compatibility with base brackets

Base Brackets are depth-specific and must match the island section depth in every section of the run. Ordering a 19-inch (19D) island section with a 16-inch Base Bracket reduces load-bearing capacity and creates a front-overhang condition that fails Lozier's installation specifications. Always confirm Base Bracket depth matches section depth before placing a mixed-component order.

What is the difference between a Starter and an Add-On island section?

A Starter is a complete, freestanding section with both end frames: two Uprites, four Base Brackets, two Base Decks, two Closed Base Fronts, a full set of rails, two back panels, and end trim on the exposed end. An Add-On attaches to an existing section and shares that section's end Uprite, so it comes with one Uprite, two Base Brackets, and no end trim, which is why an Add-On costs less than a Starter. Order one Starter to begin a run, then one Add-On for each additional section.
