Gondola shelving is the freestanding, double-sided (island) or single-sided (wall) shelving system used in most retail stores. Modern gondola shelving consists of a few key components:
- Uprights: Vertical steel posts that form the structural spine. Lozier catalog Uprite heights: 36, 42, 48, 54, 60, 66, 72, 78, 84, 90, 96, 102, 108, 114, and 120 in. Most retail selections fall between 48 and 96 in.
- Base Brackets - Floor-level brackets that anchor the uprights and set the shelf depth.
- Base Decks - The lowest shelf, sitting at floor level.
- Rails - Horizontal cross-members that tie uprights together and add rigidity.
- Shelves - TL (top lip) and DL (double lip) shelves that hook into uprights on adjustable clips.
- Back Extensions - Pegboard, Marteck, or slotwall panels for wall sections.
- End Caps - Display units that cap the ends of island runs.
Island vs Wall Sections
Island sections are freestanding double-sided runs visible from both directions. They are the backbone of grocery, drug store, and hardware aisles. Wall sections are single-sided units that mount against a wall, typically with a back panel.
Why Lozier
Lozier is the retail industry standard for gondola shelving in North America. Their component system covers grocery, pharmacy, convenience, hardware, specialty retail, and warehouse formats with a single interoperable catalog: a 22-inch grocery deck, a 13-inch pharmacy deck, a 96-inch warehouse upright, and a 48-inch checkout run all use the same base bracket family, upright slot pattern, and finish system. We build every quote on genuine Lozier components, so a Lozier fixture you buy today interlocks with any Lozier fixture already in your store.
